Before You start

Before you can start your driving lessons you need to have a provisional driving licence. Therefore, if you do not have one you will need to apply for one from the DVLA. You can also obtain a provisional driving licence application form from your local post office. You can apply for your provisional car driving licence up to three months before your seventeenth birthday (however, it would not become valid until you were seventeen).

Although you can start your driving lessons as soon as your provisional driving licence becomes valid, you cannot book the driving test until you have passed the theory test

Theory Test

The Theory Test for car drivers is split into 2 parts. The multiple choice/response quiz and the hazard perception test.  You can book your test online at the Direct Gov website.

Pupils who learn to drive with me have the added advantage of being able to study for their theory test using the website Theory Test Pro free of charge. Registration details will be given to all new pupils when they book their lessons.

You are required to give a minimum of three clear working days notice of your decision to cancel or postpone your test, otherwise you will lose your test fee.  If you fail the test you will have to wait a minimum of three clear working days before you can take the test again.

You must take one of the following items with you to the test centre.
    1. Both parts of your signed photo card driving licence or;
    2. your signed driving licence and your passport.

It would also be helpful if you take your appointment card or a note of your booking number.  It is extremely important that you arrive in good time at the test centre so that the above documents can be checked. If you arrive after the start time you will not be allowed to sit the test and you will lose your test fee.

About the Driving Test

The Driving Test for car drivers is about 40 minutes long. During this time the examiner will:

1. Check your eyesight by getting you to read a number plate at the required distance.
2. Ask you to show or tell them how to conduct certain vehicle safety checks
3. Direct you to drive around a test route while incorporating one of the following set manoeuvres and optionally the emergency stop.

Reverse parking behind a parked car or into a parking bay.
Reversing around a corner.
Turn in the road

4. You will also be required to drive independently for 8-10 minutes following either road signs or a directional map or combination of both.

You can book, change or cancel your test online at the Direct Gov website.  Directgov is the only official site where you can book or change your practical test appointment without paying an extra administration fee.

You must take the following items with you to the test centre:
1.Your theory test pass certificate;
2. Your signed photocard driving licence

Show Me Tell Me Questions

To help pupils I've set up some short videos on YouTube for the Show Me Tell Me question for my car:

Here are a few of the things my past pupils have said on Google and Facebook about learning to drive with me

Driving Test Pass Leighton Buzzard

Kev was a brilliant driving instructor to have. He tailored every lesson to suit my pace which meant some days we focused on several different driving skills and others we just drove so I could build up my confidence on the road. I also found his feedback very encouraging and he helped me to focus on the positives if ever I became frustrated with my progress. I found him to be very understanding and I couldn't have asked for a better instructor. I would definitely recommend him for everyone but especially those who feel nervous about driving for the first time like I was.

Kev is an extremely friendly and patient instructor who makes the lessons relaxed and enjoyable. I would recommend Kev to any new learners.

Driving Test Pass Leighton Buzzard

A friendly and adaptable instructor that teaches you not how to pass your test, but how to drive! Enjoyed all of our lessons, and felt I could see my progress since Kev regularly reviews your progress with you. He keeps you feeling confident behind the wheel and won't pressure you to do things too quickly. Had some great laughs with Kev, making the experience more relaxed. My two brothers and I all passed first time under Kev's care, and I'd readily recommend him to anyone!

Well what can be said about Kev? 12/10 for everything, I was really nervous but Kev kept calm and professional throughout and made learning to drive a genuinely fun experience, I would recommend Kev to anyone without doubt!

 With my nerves with driving and low confidence, Kev was a great instructor who helped me gain belief in these areas! I couldn't recommend him enough; a very patient, calming and friendly instructor.

Kev was a brilliant driving instructor for me, very patient and took the time to make sure I felt safe on the road. I passed first time because of his excellent teaching! Thanks again Kev!

Driving Test Pass Leighton Buzzard

 Kev is the most patient and understanding driving instructor, he helped me pass my test and overcome my fear of driving which I never thought would ever happen! Would definitely recommend him as he is an excellent instructor

From my first lesson with Kev I had a goal of wanting to pass within six weeks. With his help this was possible and I passed my test first time! He was very flexible with my lessons and very patient! Couldn't of done it without him! Thank you for everything
